This is the tool I use to create original mezzotints. The "rocker" is worked across a copper plate in many directions creating an even texture of burrs. The texture of the burrs will hold ink and print solid black. The burrs are then scraped and burnished (smoothed over or removed) which creates lighter values. Lots of work but lots of fun.
